Hey!
It's time to write my final chapter and say goodbye.
This text is for all the exchange students around the world. I want you to know you're not alone.
This text is also for my friends and family across the sea in USA. I want you to know you meant a lot to me.
This text is also for my close ones in Finland. I want you to know that right now I need your understanding more than ever.
It's been one month since I came back from my exchange. Life goes so fast sometimes. I have been busy from the day I landed. first two weeks I was going all the time. Seeing friends, family, relatives and experiencing Finland again. Then my school started and I have been concentrated to that couple of weeks now. I have started drivers training and celebrate my 18th birthday. I have just kept myself doing something all the time. To be honest I have got pretty tired. I need rest, I need time, time to heal.
Exchange year is bittersweet. It's walking on the roses. You go up and down and you feel everything more strong. All the bad things are the worst that has ever happened and you just want to lay down and cry. Then all the good things are so wonderful that you have tears of joy. It makes you stronger and more independent to get through the obstacles you have. Sometimes the obstacles are inside you and it's even harder to forgive yourself than others. But you will make through those days and you feel so good about yourself when you do it. You enjoy life and everything it has to give to you. Most of the time you're just happy.
I am a person who has always loved and appreciate life. I am a happy person and it never changed. Still living away from everything you have used to, everything that is normal to you has suddenly disappeared. At first it's not a bad thing at all because you wanted it. But when half of you is something that the stranger you're now with won't get, it hurts. You can be only half what you're. Then during the year you create the a new half of you to fill the empty space you have from leaving your country. And in the end you just have this idea, perfect dream about your homeland. You miss it all but you also romanticize everything.
Then you come home. You can't even realize that your exchange year is over when you have been back for a week already. At first you keep contact and talk back to your host country all the time. You also see your old friends and everything seems fine. But then it starts hitting you. You're back in your old life but you have reborn in another and that new person you're doesn't fit in the old scale anymore.
I do love to be back in Finland. I feel alive breathing Finland's air and I enjoy walking in Finland's woods. I love to see my family and friends and eating the food that I grow up eating. I am so excited to be at school again, studying. I am at home. Still I'm missing something all the time. I miss the people who touched my heart and who I needed to leave. Because now the half I create last year is strange to my people; my family, my friends.
To all the exchange students: Let's stand together and support each others while we can. Our all years were different and we are all our own characters. Now our job is to bring together two different worlds. We are the bridges between the cultures. We feel like we never really belong to anywhere because we are all the time missing something but that tells us that the people we are with are also missing something they just don't know it. Sometimes ignorance is good, it can keep you safe and happy. But we should try to courage people to be open to new things, new cultures and speak our hearts out. We shouldn't struggle because we are so rich with life. We should be proud and appreciate everything we have and try to give others the same joy we have.
To my friends and family back in USA: It was a bittersweet year, but you taught me so much and gave me another life. You show me what I can be. You touched my heart and all the time I wish I could come to see you and hug you. I try talk to you but right now it's hurt. I'm trying to let go and keep continuing my life. I don't want to forget and I won't do that but you're not my everyday life anymore. If I keep pretending you're I run out of energy. So forgive me if there is times I can't talk. I'm already trying to make money for a visit and then I'm going to stay for awhile, but you need to understand that as much as I love you guys, my life doesn't belong to Michigan. You have a part of my heart there but so has other places. I just ask you to hold tight of that piece and everything is going to be fine.
To my family and friends in Finland: I want you to understand that when I talk about how I miss my year it doesn't mean I would love you less. I have as much fun here than I did on my exchange. I missed all of you while I was gone. During this one month I have felt so welcomed and loved. You have also touched my heart and wherever I go you will always be in my heard too. It's a complicated thing that I feel and this text is how I can try to express my feelings. Just give me time and accept my new sides because that is who I am right now. I hope I can be that and you're still going to hold my hand.
Thank You
SUOMEKSI!
Moi!
Tää on nyt mun viimeinen postaus. Tää teksti on omistettu kaikille vaihtareille.
Vaihtovuosi on tavallaan erittäin katkeransuloinen. Se on kuin ruusuilla tanssimista. Kaikki mitä sä tunnet tuntuu paljon vahvemmalta kuin normaalisti. Kaikki vastoinkäymiset lyö sut maahan, etkä sä millään haluis nousta. Kaikki hyvät hetken on maailmassa mahtavimpia, etkä oo ikinä tuntenut itseäsi onnellisemmaksi.
Tää kylmä ilma jota me hengitetään tuntuu hyvältä mun keuhkoissa ja metsäinen maisema saa mut rauhalliseksi. Mä rakastan mun perhettä ja kavereita ja suomalaisen ruuan syömistä. Mä oon innoissani koulusta ja opiskelusta. Mä oon kotona. Silti musta tuntuu, että jotain tärkeetä puuttuu. Mä kaipaan niitä, jotka kosketti mun sydäntä, niitä jotka mun piti jättää taakseni. Sillä nyt se reikä, jonka mä täytin uusilla asioilla viimevuoden kuluessa on kummajainen mun läheisilleni.
Kaikille vaihto-oppilaille: Meidän tulee pitää yhtä. Me ei saada ajatella, että me ollaan yksin. Meillä kaikilla oli erilaiset vuodet ja me ollaan erilaisia ihmisiä. Meillä kuitenkin on yhdistäviä tekijöitä, ja meistä saattaa nyt tuntua, ettei me kuuluta mihinkään, koska minne vaan me mennään, joku jää taakse.
Kiitos
